What it does

A calculator disguised as a notebook.

TextCalc parses every line you type. Math evaluates inline. Conversions unfold in their own units. Variables you assigned three lines up keep working. Everything else is just text, written your way.

Arithmetic that reads like prose

A real Pratt-style evaluator: + − × ÷ ^ %, parentheses, unary minus, postfix percent. Type math anywhere and results appear inline on the right.

190 / 1215.83
(5 + 3) * 216
2^101,024
𝑥

Variables across the document

Assign once, reuse on later lines. Reads top-down like a spreadsheet without cells.

tax = 0.18
subtotal = 240
subtotal + tax * subtotal283.2

Unit conversions

Length, weight, temperature, time, volume, data. All in one parser. Write the unit you have, the unit you want, done.

5 ft to cm152.4 cm
100 f to c37.78 °C
1500 mb to gb1.46 GB

Live currency

Convert between major ISO codes with live rates. Refreshed in the background; works offline against the last cached snapshot.

10 usd to eur
50 gbp to jpy
%

Percentages, naturally

Tip math, markups, discounts. Written the way you'd say them.

50 - 10%45

Checklists & lists

Tap a checkbox to toggle it. Bullets and numbered lists work in plain or markdown mode.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

If something isn't covered here, the contact form gets to me directly.

Is there a subscription?+

No. TextCalc is a one-time $5.99 purchase. You can start free on a single note, and everything stays unlocked once you buy — no renewals.

Which devices does it run on?+

iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later. The same purchase unlocks every device signed into your Apple ID, and Family Sharing is enabled.

Does it have a Mac version?+

Not yet. TextCalc is iOS-first. Catalyst or a native Mac build may come later.

Where are my notes stored?+

On your device in SwiftData, and synced across your devices through your own private iCloud (CloudKit). They go to your Apple ID's iCloud, not to us — we run no servers in that path and can't read your notes.

How do currency rates work?+

Rates are fetched in the background from a public foreign exchange feed and cached. If you're offline, the most recent snapshot is used.

What math can it actually do?+

Arithmetic with + − × ÷ ^ %, parentheses, unary minus, percent (both postfix and "X% of Y"), variable assignments reused across the document, and conversions for length, weight, temperature, time, volume, data, and currency.

Does it support Markdown?+

Yes, with in-place styling and no preview pane. Toggle Markdown on in the bottom bar and headings, bold, italic, code, and lists render as you type.

What do I get for free?+

One note with the full live calculator — arithmetic and variables as you type — in plain text. Pro ($5.99 once) unlocks unlimited notes, Markdown, currency conversion, image/sketch/voice attachments, and Apple Intelligence writing tools.

Open it once. Stop using a calculator app.

Free to start, $5.99 to unlock it all. It's the kind of utility you'll quietly open every day.
